Asian Americans For Change Fund Responds to Candidate’s Divisive Stances: Students Deserve Honest and Accurate Public Education
LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA – This Tuesday, congressional candidate Hung Cao joined a group of parents and right-wing activists determined to turn Virginia classrooms into battlegrounds for vicious culture wars.
Asian Americans For Change Fund - Virginia, released the following statement in response:
“With his rhetoric and action, Cao is trying to turn the public against public schools and teachers. These attempts to generate outrage are designed to divide communities for political purposes. We don’t need politicians trying to undermine our public education system and prevent teachers from providing an honest and accurate education for Virginia’s children. Hung Cao is not a curriculum expert. Let’s trust teachers to make school and learning decisions to make sure students can learn from the mistakes of our past and thrive in the future.
Students need to learn both the good and the bad of our history so they can better understand the lives, cultures, and experiences of different people. Together, we can demand every child have the same quality education, regardless of their race, background, or zip code. We need elected leaders who are serious about getting schools the resources they need, not participating in sideshow distractions.”
